Alicia Borisonik
Alicia Borisonik has built a career around composing, teaching and performing. She plays accordion and keyboards, and was a vocalist, composer, and arranger for her band ALICIA BORISONIK AND THE ARGENTINIAN PROJECT. Alicia has received numerous grants for her research of Argentinian music. (Canada Council for the Arts, Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Quebec, Ontario Arts Council and FACTOR). Parallel to her profession as a musician and composer, Alicia has a long career as a music educator. She’s created a series of workshops, residencies and programs about Latin American music. Her Latin-American Music workshops have been presented at several schools in the OCDSB, OCSB and others venues such as; Canadian Museum of Civilization and National Art Gallery. She was the founder and Executive Director of a non-for profit organization called World Folk Music Ottawa (2013/19). World Folk Music Ottawa’s mission is to offer all kind of music projects for underserved populations, especially immigrants. The organization had received various grants from Ontario Trillium Foundation, Socan Foundation, Ontario Arts Council , Heritage Canada, Ministry of Citizenship and City of Ottawa. Alicia has an extensive experience offering music projects to people of all ages in various multicultural communities and schools. She is currently working at the Bronson Centre as part of a project called Bronson RISE (Real Inclusion by Seniors Everywhere). The mission of this project is to attract seniors from all walks of life to participate in activities at the Bronson Centre. The project is based on reserach on Aging Well.
Understand the rich diversity of multicultural music and instruments; gain an appreciation for the relationship between culture and music; create percussive responses using both body and various percussive instruments applying elements of music to personal compositions created.

AVAILABLE ONLINE: School Workshop: Latin-American Music
Alicia will share her South American cultural background and show students some unique musical instruments from Latin America; students will can explore the different ways they are played and the different sounds they produce. Alicia will lead students in movement games and ‘call and response’ exercises; students will explore the rhythms used to accompany a simple song.

School Workshop: Rhythm and Music
In this workshop, Alicia will introduce students to simple rhythmic patterns, concepts, and instruments, guiding them through an exciting world of multiple possibilities. Students will explore percussion instruments, body percussion, simple songs, and group singing. (Artist will provide shakers, rhythm sticks, chimes and hand drums if required)

School Workshop: Introduction to Classroom Ukelele
Learn fun songs for group Ukulele playing with classroom instruments. Explore basic strumming patterns, rhythm, and simple songs to sing along to. Ukeleles will be provided if required.
Material fees: $50 + HST per day.
