An Afternoon at the Opera New

Pianist Judith Ginsburg was the longtime Principal Repetiteur of Opera Lyra Ottawa and Music Director of its Young Artists Program and Opera for Young Audiences program.  Judith, Soprano Ania Hejnar, and Mezzo- Soprano Arminè Kassabian began collaborating when Ania and Arminè were members of Opera Lyra’s Young Artists Program.  Kathi Langston is a highly acclaimed actor, director, drama teacher, and Artistic Director of Ottawa School of Theatre who has been the recipient of many awards, including the Ontario Provincial Leading Women Award and The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.
They are all leading artists in their field.

Journey back with nostalgic songs to move forward with optimism! Prior to the workshop, participants will choose three songs from a list provided. These songs will be analyzed, identifying and dramatizing different emotions. The workshop will end with the songs performed for the enjoyment of the participants.

Delightful concert featuring well-known arias from operas such as The Barber of Seville, The Magic Flute and Carmen. Accompanied by a pianist, the singer(s) will delight the audience with their beautiful, professionally trained voices and animated performances rendering each song a mini-theatrical experience. Each piece will be introduced with a short description providing the context of the scene. Concerts can involve either one singer or two (allowing for duets). Possible special themes include: Valentine’s Day, Oktoberfest, Christmas, Tango
