cj fleury

cj fleury is a multi media artist and cultural researcher who is deeply interested in the role of art in contemporary society. Her practice includes drawing, shield-making, performance, writing, video, large-scale sculpture and pilot projects for social-justice and social-entrepreneurship education. She has completed commissions for seventeen permanent public works in Ontario and Quebec including: Ottawa - "Postcards from the Piazzas" (15 bronze and granite sculptures on Preston St); The "Women's Monument against Violence" (Elgin Street); The Dorothy O'Connell Anti-Poverty Activists' Monument (City Hall); Gatineau - "The Condition of Rosetta Stones" (C.E.G.E.P. Heritage College).

Residency Workshop English Seniors

Large, brilliantly colored flowers on leafy stems, for table tops or walls, are made with pliable materials that get the hands and fingers moving. Participants with a range of skill levels take their inspiration from Nature, imagination or creative experiments; those more advanced, can learn ornate surface decoration and detailed 3D “fancy-work”.

Shimmer and Shape your Subject

Residency Workshop English

Design, drawing and embossing exercises on lightweight shiny material, subjects can be developed around current class themes. Students will create low-relief pieces, mobiles or sculptures as individual works or as larger public art for the school. Tactile and imaginative, fun, simple or complex, these projects involve scissor-work, colouring, bending, folding, piercing, threading and assembly. Pre-cut shapes will be provided for the very young; the project will become more complex for older students. Makes an excellent project for whole school participation during a residency.

New Program Residency Workshop English

cj will design a creative project specific to your group’s ‘voice and vision’, using a variety of media and techniques. cj’s residencies have been designed around public art, shield-making, murals, choral presentations and the environment. The residency may be one, two, or more weeks. Materials not included; dependent on project.

Residency Workshop English Seniors

Be it sketches, scribbles, scraps, maps, words, wishes or photos and poetry bits; filling up your art journal sets your imagination free. Learn lots of techniques for transforming plain white pages into small art pieces; entertaining experiments reflecting your creative spirit. Sketchbooks will be provided with some art materials & tools. Bring along favourite small objects, personal items or photos to inspire or incorporate or other interesting bits to trace, trade or share.

The Pleasure of Ornaments

Using easy-to-handle art materials, that are full of color and sparkle, we’ll create small ornamental pieces that catch the eye and reflect light. There are many ways to design and assemble these 2D and 3D creations, and equally; as many ways to display, use or share them!
