Examples of Claudia's Workshops
Claudia Salguero is a Colombian-Canadian professional multidisciplinary artist and Community Engaged Artist working with multicultural groups in communities in risk. Working in collaboration with different Social Institutions, she has created close to 30 community murals in the City since 2014.
  Through her work, Claudia has evidenced the power of community art and her capacity to work with communities in big projects.  In 2017 she was awarded with the 150Neigbourhood Arts Grant for the creation of her mural “Canadian Pride, Harmony in Cultures” as part of Canada’s 150 Anniversary official celebrations.
In 2018, she created “Transformation, the WOW Mural” the tallest mural in town as the official image of the Welcoming Ottawa Week, WOW week. Both murals were created with the participation of close to 100 people from all backgrounds and corners of Ottawa.
Claudia is also a Latin Folk and Jazz singer who has been raising funds for kids’ foundations in her home country Colombia through her annual sold-out concerts at the Ottawa’s National Arts Centre since 2011.
   She is a member of the Arts Network Ottawa’s Board of Directors.

BikeArt Workshop

New Program Residency Workshop English

Students will experience how easy is to create pieces of art using recycled materials. Learning how to use hand tools and increasing their awareness of the environment, they will transform bike tubes into jewelry such as earrings and bracelets, or into woven baskets. Materials: $3.50 + HST per student

Online Program: Unique Colouring Creations

New Program Residency Workshop English

Participants will learn how to create a unique, personal and colourful fluid drawing using colouring pencils. Claudia will teach them how to blend and combine colours while talking about colour theory and the meaning of colour. Since each design will be unique to each participant, Claudia will guide them through the decision making so they feel confident and proud of their own creation. Materials: Colour Pencils and Paper.

Gold Mandalas

Residency Workshop English

Mandalas are an ancient artistic technique used in many cultures around the world as an aid to understanding who we are as individuals and as part of the universe around us. The inside of the circle represents our inner world and the outside represents the outer world. Using the technique of Pointillism and basic design elements, students will embellish a geometrical design discovering shapes within shapes and adding volume, contrast and movement to the piece. One session for grades K - 3; two sessions required for Grades 4 - 8/sec II). Materials $3.50 + HST per student.

Dynamic Mandalas

New Program Residency Workshop English

A hands-on, experiential learning opportunity that allows student to create a vibrant tableau. Students will get to learn about design in nature, and explore pattern, form, symmetry, repetition, texture, contrast and colour in this interactive mandala exercise using ordinary classroom materials. This is great team creation experience.

Murals

New Program Residency English

A colourful mural celebrates the school community and the creativity of the students within it. Students explore painting techniques, perspective, composition, and colour on panelized or direct-painted murals. Recycled elements, such as bottle caps, may be included for a lasting environmental message.

Tire Planters (available April, May & June)

Residency Workshop English

Reflecting on the value of recycling for our environment, participants will transform 30 old tires into planters to beautify the school and schoolyard. The planters’ designs will be inspired by Canada’s history, flora or fauna, classical or modern art or other global subjects and will be painted using durable all-season paint.
