Kseniya Tsoy
Kseniya is a new Canadian community-engaged artist, originally from Uzbekistan. In her murals and workshops, she is passionate about introducing this undiscovered part of the world through the iconic patterns and traditional applied art techniques with a contemporary twist.
Located at the crossroads of civilizations, Uzbekistan’s culture is a mesmerizing kaleidoscope of different world traditions. Travel through time and space to the heart of the Silk Road to learn about the meaning of this unique imagery and trace its origins to different parts of the world. History and culture of Central Asia; explore nomadic cultures’ artistic traditions and folklore symbolism; learn about symmetry, geometry and explore the properties of shapes, repeated patterns and tessellations; express and communicate ideas through graphic illustration; exercise problem solving and design thinking; cross-curricular links to STEM.

Expand your understanding of nomadic cultures and learn about the meaning and origins of the iconic imagery of Central Asian patterns and motifs. Students will design their own mini geometric “tiles” and discover an infinite number of dazzling design combinations and 3D shapes.

AVAILABLE ONLINE: School Workshop-Mixed Media Collage and Visual Storytelling
Learn principles of design, illustration and visual storytelling through the creation of mixed-media collages. Work with paper, crayons and unexpected everyday objects to "construct" yourself from a unique visual perspective. Through a playful process together we will unleash and expand our creativity and prove that a new way of seeing is what really makes good art! Depending on participants age these works can vary greatly in their intricacy.

School Workshop: Central Asian Pattern Print Making
Expand your understanding of nomadic cultures and learn about the meaning and origins of the iconic imagery of Central Asian patterns and motifs. Students will make their original stamps and collaborate with each other to create modern folk art prints. Younger students will work with geometric patterns, older students will explore more intricate and detailed motifs.

Students will collaborate on immersive murals and sensory paths that encourage play-based learning and healthy recess. Imagine artworks that span floors, ceilings, staircases and windows! Individually tailored to the values and the character of the space, such murals can be painted straight on the wall, panels, or created with removable vinyl stickers.
