Luciano Porto

Educator and performer Luciano Porto has been teaching music and movement to school children of all ages across Ontario for 15 years. He has been in the roster of Artists in Education with the Ontario Arts Council and through it reached isolated communities in Northern Ontario. Luciano’s teaching style translates across cultural barriers and stimulates curiosity, creativity, focus and tolerance among the most diverse groups. Be ready for an exciting cultural experience that is both authentic and true to the art forms.

Brazilian percussion

Residency Workshop English French

Students will learn traditional Brazilian rhythms and songs by playing different instruments such as shakers, cowbells and drums. They will explore three-part musical arrangements and discover the secrets behind the lively carnival music that permeates all of Brazil's distinctive and unique culture. Students will also gain a basic understanding of dances associated with the rhythms and songs as well as the socio-geographic context associated with them.

Carnaval Arts Residency

New Program Residency Workshop English French Immersion

The journey to the exciting world of Brazilian Carnaval begins. Drums, movement and colourful costumes collide to create a mobile celebration of freedom and self-expression. In this series of five workshops, students explore dances, costume design, drumming ensemble arrangements and parading skills, culminating in a mini carnival show that could be proudly featured at any school assembly!
