Masabo consists of artists from various West African cultures led by renowned balafon master Fana Soro. Their energetic performance features music dance and storytelling from the Senoufo tribe in northern Ivory Coast. These pieces are brought to life with audience participation be getting people up out of their seats and on to the stage to feel the rhythm. The Balafon (wooden xylophone) and Djembé hand drum are key instruments used throughout Masabo’s show. The powerful sound of these instruments can fill  a room with energy and excitement. Other drums, shakers and bells often accompany these two instruments.

The traditional dances performed by Masabo are those used during sacred ceremonies, wedding and celebrations. In the Senoufo village these dances play a role in education, work, entertainment, politics and religious rites. The dancers of Masabo are from various cultural groups that create a unique fusion of individual dances along with created group dances.

Masabo uses storytelling in the performance to educate young audiences about African culture. French and other African dialects are incorporated in Masabo’s performance due to the variety of languages and dialects in West Africa.
