Rhonda Doxtator

Rhonda Doxtator is from the Oneida nation of Southern Ontario. Her name is Kawisaha which means "She is Carrying Ice" and is from the turtle clan. Rhonda has been a pow wow dancer for 30 years and her passion lies within the cultural arts of dancing and singing and regalia making. Rhonda spends a lot of her time travelling to various native communities to teach dance and regalia making to the youth.  As a mother of two, Rhonda feels its important to share knowledge and promote cultural awareness for the betterment of future generations.

Hoops and harmony

New Program Residency Performance English

Expand your understanding of Indigenous culture through an interactive performance of song, stories and hoop dance. Rhonda will begin with an opening song, a short hoop dance demonstration; she will share stories from ancient oral traditions and some students will have an opportunity to try a hoop dance move.

Medicine Pouches

Residency Workshop English

This hands-on interactive workshop will guide students through the creative process of making their own personal medicine pouch. Students will have the opportunity to explore the purpose of medicine pouches, touching on basic teachings of the four sacred medicines, the medicine wheel, and the seven grandfather teachings and how they pertain to all walks of creation.

Hoop Dancing workshops

Residency Workshop English

The hoop dance originates from the nations of the southwestern United States. Traditionally used as a medicine, with hoops made from willow branches and primarily danced by the men, this dance has since evolved and changed to what it is today. The intent and purpose remains the same: a medicine to lift the spirits of the people by honouring creation, through this storytelling dance.
