Véronique Stéfanica

Examples of Véronique's Workshops
Véronique is a professional artist and art educator. She was born and educated in France. Her artistic aspiration brought her to Canada . In 1985 she graduated from Richard Robinson School of Fashion Design which taught her pattern-making, haute-couture sewing and fashion illustration. She now lives in North Gower and works full time out of her studio there. Through a colourful "naïve" style, Véronique's paintings radiate a sense of joy and humor. Viewers of her work are often observed breaking into a smile as they discover the subtle details, not always apparent at first glance. Véronique's paintings are a "breath of fresh air", vibrant, full of life, and in their childlike innocence, take many of us back to a simpler and gentler time. Véronique has been exhibiting her work at: The Rideau Valley Art Festival, Westport, Ontario; Signatures Shows in Toronto and Ottawa; Nepean Sportsplex, Ontario and the International Festival of Naive Art, North Hatley, Québec (1996, 1998)

School Workshop: Mola

Residency Workshop English French Immersion

Students will create a work of art inspired by molas, the traditional handmade textiles of the Kuna women of Panama, which use a reverse appliqué technique. Using superimposed and cut pieces of paper, students will create a work of art that reveals different colours and shapes based on the layers of paper exposed by the cut. The largest pattern is typically cut from the top layer, and progressively smaller patterns from each subsequent layer, thus revealing the colours beneath in successive layers. The more layers of colour, the more difficult the project.
