Deidre Hierlihy

About the Artist
Deidre is an artist and educator. She works in a variety of printmaking media including linocut, lithography, drypoint and collagraph. Landscape and still life are common subjects.
Much of her current work is black and white linocut print. Linocut encourages a simplified graphic vision. This medium allows her to focus her attention on and express the patterns that surround us.
Recent work in lithography encourages attention to colour, both real and imagined. Drawing is the basis for her printmaking practice, and lithography expresses her joy in the communicative possibilities of the drawn mark, and in the possibilities of colour.
There are many reasons why I am drawn to printmaking as my creative medium. Printmaking expresses things that cannot be as easily conveyed in other media.
