Rag & Bone Puppet Theatre
About the Artist
Rag & Bone Puppet Theatre, has toured across Canada and the U.S. since 1978 with over 100 performances a year in schools, libraries, children’s festivals and theatres. Kathy has also written for many children’s TV shows, including Mr. Dressup, Under the Umbrella Tree, and Theodore Tugboat. John appeared as Jackson on the YTV show Crazy Quilt. Numerous awards include an ACTRA award and a Citation of Excellence in the Art of Puppetry from UNIMA, the international puppetry association.
Rag & Bone aims to present intimate and innovative theatre experiences for school and family audiences, with simple effects that encourage children to tell their own stories, use their imaginations, and see things from different points of view. Their workshops and performances spark creativity, literacy, empathy and laughter.
With our online programming, they hope to rekindle the connection with audiences and have carefully re-created some of their most popular programs in an intimate studio setting – including Felicity Falls, Snippets, Owl at Home, The Wind in the Willows, The Flying Canoe and drama workshops.
Using puppets gives us freedom – a character can fly, jump off a roof, or dance on a teacher’s head. We are also inspired by the way that children play – creatively, imaginatively, and cooperatively.
