MASC is looking for a Senior Director of Development and a Office Manager and Event Assistant!
SENIOR DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
MASC is a dynamic charitable organization that has brought professional artists from diverse cultural backgrounds into schools and communities for over 35 years. Our performances, workshops, and artist residencies-delivered in both French and English—deepen awareness and understanding across generations and cultures.
We are seeking a Senior Director of Development a strategic, relationship-focused leader who will shape and grow MASC’s fundraising efforts for long-term sustainability. Building on our strong foundation of grants and earned revenue, this new senior role offers a unique opportunity to design and lead a comprehensive development program that engages individuals, foundations, and corporations in support of our mission.
Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Senior Director of Development will provide strategic leadership to build and execute a comprehensive fundraising program—expanding individual, corporate, and foundation support while strengthening MASC’s culture of philanthropy.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Development
- Provide strategic leadership to implement and evolve MASC’s fundraising plan, with a focus on building a diversified revenue portfolio (major gifts, monthly giving, corporate sponsorships, legacy giving and organizing fundraising at MASC events).
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with existing and prospective donors—individuals, foundations, and corporations— developing tailored strategies to secure new and renewed major gifts.
- In partnership with the Executive Director, establish and steward a Donors Circle that strengthens relationships and provides meaningful engagement opportunities for major supporters.
- Partner with the Board to build a culture of philanthropy, providing guidance and tools to engage them as ambassadors and connectors.
- Maintains detailed records of all donors (including major donors) contact, history and moves management; ensures timely and personal appreciation and recognition is completed. Oversee donor recognition and stewardship, ensuring all supporters receive timely, personalized appreciation and impact updates.
- Collaborate with the Communications team to design compelling fundraising campaigns, digital appeals, and donor-facing materials that drive engagement and giving.
- Monitor, analyze, and report on fundraising outcomes and key metrics, adjusting strategies to ensure annual and long-term revenue targets are met.
Grants
- Provide strategic direction for MASC’s grant portfolio to ensure sustainable and growing support from government, foundations, and other institutional funders.
- Research and assess new grant opportunities, prioritizing those with multi-year or capacity-building potential.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective funders, positioning MASC as a leader in arts education and community impact.
- Lead the preparation of compelling, outcomes-driven grant proposals and reports in collaboration with the Executive Director.
- Manage the grants calendar, submission processes, and reporting requirements, ensuring all deadlines and funder expectations are met.
- Track grant performance, analyze outcomes, and leverage results to inform stewardship and future funding strategy.
Other duties as required.
- Work closely with the Executive Director and leadership team to align fundraising priorities with organizational strategy and programs.
- Represent MASC at events, donor meetings, and community gatherings, serving as a visible and credible ambassador for the organization.
- Stay current on fundraising trends, best practices, and emerging opportunities to keep MASC’s development strategies innovative and competitive.
- Perform other related duties as required to advance MASC’s mission and fundraising goals.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Philanthropy, Business Administration, Arts Management, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- 5–7 years of progressive fundraising experience including demonstrated success in securing major gifts, grants, and corporate sponsorships.
- Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) designation preferred.
- Proven track record in designing and executing comprehensive fundraising strategies that drive revenue growth and long-term sustainability.
- Exceptional relationship-building and stewardship skills with individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities to craft compelling donor communications, proposals, grants and reports.
- Strong strategic, financial, and analytical thinking skills, with the ability to develop and manage fundraising budgets and forecasts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with experience crafting compelling donor communications, proposals, and impact reports.
- Proficiency with fundraising and donor management databases (MASC uses FileMaker Pro) and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
- Fluency in both English and French is a strong asset.

WORK PARAMETERS
Parameters: Full time (40 hours per week)
Salary: $78,200-$82,800 (commensurate with experience)
Benefit plan (life and long-term disability insurance)
Hybrid work his role is based in Ottawa with flexible hybrid work options; regular in-person attendance is required for events and monthly staff meetings.
Vacation: 3 weeks paid vacation
Sick days: 10 paid sick days

MASC OFFICE MANAGER AND EVENT ASSISTANT
MASC is a dynamic, mid-sized charitable organization that has brought professional creatives from diverse cultural backgrounds into schools and communities for over 35 years. We aim to deepen awareness and encourage understanding through our performances, workshops, artists-in-residence programs, and annual festivals.
The MASC Office and Event Coordinator is responsible for the efficient running of all office administrative, financial and support systems, event support, volunteer management as well as managing a portion of the bookings for MASC artists in schools.
MASC is looking for an organized and efficient person who believes in our mission and is excited to join an engaged, busy team. Someone who enjoys making a difference through the arts. This position requires a bilingual person (English and French) who can take initiative, identify and solve issues, works well in a dynamic team, and on their own, often under pressure.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has two distinct areas: Office Management and Event Assistance.
1) OFFICE MANAGEMENT
General Office Management
- Provide guidance re: equipment/software replacement/purchases
- Ensure optimum office efficiency and consistency, propose systems and update procedures guide
- Ensure all staff are trained on the office systems
- Problem solve and search for solutions when staff encounter IT problems – work with IT consultants when necessary
- Liaise with all insurance and service providers
- Maintain the current access links and password storage system.
- Setting up meetings both in-person, online and hybrid including catering and technical systems etc.
- Minimum of once-weekly office visits: water plants, pick up mail, filing, organizing/tidying office space
- Maintain necessary office supplies
Financial Processes
- Main contact with MASC’s bookkeeper
- Oversee all accounts payable and receivable
- Manage ongoing service provider contract payments; regularly assess to ensure cost-effectiveness
- Process and track credit card purchases and receipts
- Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
- Prepare and make weekly bank deposits
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure proper coding of expenses
- Monitor cash flow and flag discrepancies or irregularities
- Support annual audit preparation and documentation
- Assist with budget tracking and financial reporting as needed
- Stay up to date on fraud prevention, internal controls systems and ethical conduct.
Human Resources Support
- Coordinate recruitment and onboarding processes, including job postings, interview scheduling and new hire documentation
- Maintain and update employee records, including vacation, sick leave, and other absences
- Track and process employee reimbursements and timesheets and submit for payroll
- Administer and coordinate employee benefits, including enrollment, updates, and communication with benefits providers
- Identify and support staff professional development opportunities and training needs
- Assist in developing and implementing HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with organizational standards and legislation
- Support performance management processes, including tracking probation periods and review cycles
- Serve as a point of contact for general HR-related inquiries
Database
- Regular updating of the database: Board, volunteers, donors, annual artist programs
- Support team with statistic research
- Management of database contractor tasks
2) EVENT ASSISTANCE
This role provides support to Program Directors across all phases of event planning and delivery, including:
- Registration Management: Set up and manage registration systems, process attendee registrations, and track payments
- Artist Coordination: Prepare and issue artist contracts; coordinate travel, accommodations, and special requirements
- Logistics and Procurement: Support logistical management such as booking buses, ordering event merchandise (e.g., t-shirts, banners), coordinating catering, and sourcing supplies and rentals
- Assist with purchase, packing and delivery of event materials and supplies
- On-Site Event Support: Provide hands-on assistance during events, including carrying moderately heavy boxes/equipment
- Volunteer and Intern Coordination: Secure funding, submit reports, recruit, train, schedule, and supervise volunteers and interns to support events
Other Duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Fully bilingual: French and English
- Post-Secondary Arts Administration degree/diploma or minimum 2 years of experience in a similar position
- Experience with financial administration
- Experience with Filemaker Pro management or similar database system an asset
- Proficient with Excel, Word, Microsoft suite: Outlook, Sharepoint, Teams, Planner

WORK PARAMETERS

Work Environment: Primarily remote, with occasional in-office meetings and in-person event support
Equipment: Work computer provided
Vacation: 10 paid vacation days
Sick Leave: 8 paid sick days (pro-rated from 10 days annually)
