Meet the 2026 MASC Arts Awards Recipients
Since 1999, this prestigious gala has celebrated Ottawa’s most passionate young artists at the National Arts Centre, offering life-changing opportunities to help them grow and shine.

Ashley Washaya, MASC Arts Award Recipient – Dance
Nominated by Emilia Nowicki, Queen Elizabeth School
“Ashley’s love for dance is evident in the dedication and creativity she brings to every movement. From teaching herself choreography to refining her skills through her school dance club, she has shown remarkable discipline and passion. Ashley’s ability to express herself without words through dance is inspiring, and she continues to grow as an artist every day. We are so proud of Ashley and thrilled that her talent has been recognized with the MASC Arts Award. Keep dancing with joy and confidence!”
Ashley has received a year-long scholarship to The School of Dance.
Adriana De Pietto, MASC Arts Award Recipient – Drama
Nominated by Fehintola Otujo, St. Benedict Catholic School
“Adriana’s passion for musical theatre shines in every role she takes on. From her first performance in The Little Mermaid to her title role in Matilda Jr., she has demonstrated confidence, dedication, and joy on stage. Adriana’s ability to inspire her peers and bring characters to life makes her a remarkable performer. We are proud to celebrate Adriana’s talent and look forward to seeing her continue to shine in the world of theatre.”
Adriana has received a year-long scholarship to the Ottawa Children’s Theatre.
Darren Cameron, MASC Arts Award Recipient – Music

Whether performing on piano, guitar, or percussion, he demonstrates both skill and a supportive spirit that uplifts those around him. Darren has received a year-long scholarship to Allegro Music Schools.
David Colmenares, MASC Arts Award Recipient – Visual Arts

“David’s talent and dedication to visual arts are exceptional. Whether sketching, creating digital media, or supporting his peers, he approaches every project with focus, creativity, and a strong work ethic. David has received a year-long scholarship to the Ottawa School of Art.
Hailey Gibson, MASC Arts Award Recipient – Literary Arts
Nominated by Shannon Brock, Katimavik Elementary School
“Hailey is a passionate and insightful writer whose work speaks with emotional depth and authenticity. Through stories that explore identity, belonging, and self-expression, Hailey offers meaningful representation for the LGBTQ+ community and inspires readers with their voice. Their dedication to literary arts is evident, and we are thrilled that this recognition celebrates Hailey’s talent and commitment. Keep writing and sharing your stories with the world.”
Hailey has received a one-on-one mentorship with professional author Gabriella Goliger.
2026 MASC Arts Awards – Special Awards

Lulia Hagos, Jennifer Cayley Award Recipient – Literary Arts
“Lulia is a dedicated and thoughtful writer who uses her creativity as a powerful form of self-expression. Drawing inspiration from her personal experiences and cultural background as a second-generation Eritrean immigrant, her work reflects both depth and authenticity. As the founder of her school’s Writers Society, Lulia demonstrates leadership and a strong commitment to helping others build confidence in their writing and find their voice. Her passion for both writing and mentorship makes her a truly deserving recipient of this award.”
Lulia has received the Jennifer Cayley Award, including a $500 prize.
Fen Woodstock, Jan Andrews Literary Award Recipient – Literary Arts
“Fen Woodstock is an 11th grade student at Glebe Collegiate. Their interests include student advocacy, especially around accessibility and mental health, biology, and of course writing. Their biggest goals are to make it to vet school and spread awareness about chronic illness in education.”
Fen will receive a one-on-one mentorship with a published author and participate in the Young Ottawa Writers Workshop (YOWW).
Renzy Patangan, Molly Ellens Award Recipient – Visual Arts
Nominated by Erin Feeney, Notre Dame High School
“Renzy is a thoughtful and dedicated young artist who expresses himself through detailed and evolving work. While he describes himself as introverted, his passion for art is clear in the care he brings to each piece, often inspired by characters he admires and his growing interest in realism. Renzy’s artistic journey reflects curiosity, persistence, and a genuine love of creation, both in his sketchbook and beyond. His work continues to grow as he explores new techniques and ideas.”
Renzy has received the Molly Ellens Award, including a visual art supplies package and mentorship with a visual artist.
