About this program
Explore Latin America through music, geography, culture, and visual art! Led by Colombian-Canadian artist Claudia Salguero, students will travel to four countries through images, maps, stories, and music, discovering how different instruments and rhythms reflect the cultural diversity of the region. From the wind instruments of Bolivia and string music of Colombia to Argentina’s bandoneón and the percussion of Afro-Peruvian music, students will experience contrasting sounds, tempos, and traditions.
Students will then turn listening into a sensory art experience. Using oil pastels or crayons, they will freely create while listening to a mix of the four musical styles, responding to the rhythms, instruments, moods, and feelings through colour, line, shape, and movement.
Combining Visual Arts, Music, Geography, and cultural learning, this workshop encourages self-expression, active listening, creativity, and curiosity while introducing students to the rich cultural and musical diversity of Latin America.
