Artist Master Classes

  • Watercolour Master Class: Professional Techniques & Studio Practice

    With Nicole Belanger

Led by Nicole Bélanger, this master class offers students a rare opportunity to study watercolour at a professional level. Drawing on over 30 years of professional practice, Nicole will guide students through advanced techniques, material exploration, and process-based decision making used by working visual artists. Emphasis will be placed on observation, control, and experimentation, giving students insight into how watercolour is approached in professional art careers.

  • Audition Preparation Master Class: Story, Presence & Performance

    With Jacqui Du Toit

Led by Jacqui du Toit, this master class offers drama students an in-depth look at audition preparation through the lens of professional theatre practice. Drawing on her international experience as a performer, storyteller, and arts educator, Jacqui will guide students through techniques used by working actors to approach text, embody character, and communicate story with clarity and confidence. The session will explore audition fundamentals including presence, movement, voice, and intention, while also addressing mindset and self-awareness as essential tools for sustainable performance. Students will gain insight into how auditions are approached in post-secondary training and professional theatre environments, and how to bring authenticity and resilience into the audition room.

  • Video Production Master Class: From Concept to Creation

    With Shaun Elie

Led by Shaun Elie, this master class introduces students to professional video production practices through hands-on creation and creative problem-solving. Drawing on his experience as a filmmaker and media artist, Shaun will guide students through key techniques used in real-world video work, from developing ideas and working with constraints to capturing and editing short-form content. Students will create very short videos while learning how professional creators adapt their process to different contexts, themes, and audiences. The session offers insight into how video production is approached in post-secondary programs and creative industries, emphasizing storytelling, experimentation, and collaboration as core professional skills.

  • Afrobeat & Contemporary Street Dance Master Class: Rhythm, Style & Cultural Practice

    With Julianne Lavertu

Led by Julianne M. Lavertu, this master class invites students to explore Afrobeat and contemporary street dance through professional movement practice and cultural context. Drawing on over 20 years of experience as a dancer, educator, and artistic director, Julianne will guide students through foundational and advanced movement principles rooted in Afro-Caribbean traditions while connecting them to contemporary street styles. Emphasis will be placed on musicality, embodiment, and personal expression, offering students insight into how these forms are practiced, taught, and developed in professional and post-secondary dance environments. This session highlights dance as both a technical discipline and a powerful tool for storytelling, identity, and creative liberation.

  • Music Beyond the Stage: Creative Careers in Community Spaces

    With Kathryn Patricia

This session also explores how a musician’s practice can expand into health care, community, and seniors’ settings, as well as other interdisciplinary environments where music plays a vital role beyond entertainment. Students will examine how creative music experiences can support well-being, connection, and accessibility, reaching participants who may not otherwise engage with traditional concert formats. Through real-world examples, the workshop highlights how artists collaborate with community organizations, cultural institutions, and care settings to create meaningful musical experiences that foster inclusion, reflection, and social impact—demonstrating how music can be a powerful tool for connection and positive change.
